The 18th edition of the exclusive Cloud Control Workshop is being held on June 17-19, 2025 at Skåvsjöholm in the Stockholm archipelago. The workshop is a high-profile event targeting academic and industrial researchers and leaders from all around the world. Participation is by invitation only!

The 18th edition will follow the successful format of recent editions, see, e.g., the Programme from last year. Last year’s edition gathered 109 invited participants including renown academics from 18 countries and influential industry representatives from companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Intel, Amazon, Ericsson, Tietoevry, NetApp, Terraview, U-Hopper, and Elastisys. (See the list of participants from last year’s edition.) We aim for something similar this time!

Ambition
The ambition is to create an event where people come, not to publish and extend their CV:s, but to discuss and learn – and most importantly – to establish or strengthen connections to people with varying backgrounds, but all highly relevant to identifying and solving the research challenges of cloud control. To facilitate this, we not only prepare a discussion-oriented program but also ensure to host the event on a small, relaxing, and inspiring location, with many opportunities to interact during the three days of the workshop.
Scope
By providing an understanding of the research challenges ahead and by fostering multi-disciplinary research collaborations, the ambition is to shape the future of resource and application management for any type of resources important for the cloud, from single servers to hyperscale datacenters, including, e.g., mobile edge clouds, fog infrastructure, and disaggregated and software-defined infrastructures on any scale, from rack-scale to datacenter-scale. The 18th edition strives for a strong focus on management topics, rather than on cloud in general.

Participants
The workshop targets leading industrial and academic researchers and leaders from any scientific discipline with potential to contribute to this multidisciplinary topic, leveraging expertise in areas such as autonomic computing, control theory, distributed systems, machine learning, energy management, mathematical statistics, performance modeling, cloud security, and all aspects of systems management. Besides this topical distribution, we aim for a good balance between the most influential industrial researchers and leaders, the most distinguished academic professors, and up-and-coming researchers of the field.
Workshop format
The workshop program comprises a small number of invited short presentations on planned, ongoing, or completed research; several longer contributed discussion sessions; and a poster session – giving all participants a a choice of contributing to the program or just participate and engage in the discussions being offered. Equally important, the program provides plenty of opportunities for ad hoc meetings and discussions with peers in inspiring and non-disturbed settings.
For instructions on how to lead a discussion session, please see How to Lead a Discussion Session.

Travel and transportation
The venue is located 40 minutes drive from Arlanda airport and there will be chartered buses before the start and after the end of the workshop. Times for local transport are:
- At 8.40 on June 17: Gathering just outside the entrance/exit of Arlanda Airport’s Terminal 4. Buses leave at 9.00 sharp.
- Buses arrive Arlanda Airport (Terminal 4) no later than 16.30 on June 19.
If arriving early, we recommend the hotels inside Arlanda airport: Radisson Blu Airport Terminal Hotel; Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport; and Comfort Hotel Arlanda Airport.
Registration fee
The workshop registration fee covers not only 3 days of workshop participation but also hotel room for two nights from June 17 to June 19, all meals, and chartered bus transportation from Arlanda airport to the workshop venue and back.
The total fee for workshop, hotel, meals, and transportation is 9 400 SEK incl. tax (about 820 Euros or 850 USD as of Dec 2024). (The fee excluding tax is 8048 SEK).
To register please use the link provided in your invitation email. Since participation is by invitation only, the link for registration is not to be shared. By registering, you are automatically allocated a hotel room (if not otherwise agreed).

Reinvigorating ad hoc discussions
Although we expect the discussions and ad hoc meetings to last long into the bright summer nights, we recommend to combine discussions and networking with outdoor activities providing energy and inspriation, such as various kinds of games and sport, going for a run or for a swim in the Sea, trying out the canoes, simply enjoying the nature, or relaxing in the sauna or outdoor jacuzzi.
Participation
Participation is by invitation only and the number of participants is limited.
Organization
The workshop is a non-profit event where every participant basically covers their own costs. Finances are managed by Umeå University and their contracted conference organizer Nordic Congress. The workshop organizing committee consists of:
- Erik Elmroth, Umeå University and Elastisys (Chair)
- Mina Sedaghat, Ericsson
- Chanh Nguyen Le Tan, Umeå University
- Eunil (Antonio) Seo, Umeå University
